Canada Takes GOLD in Ski Cross!

Canada's Ashleigh McIvor has won the first GOLD medal ever in the Ski Cross event. This brings Canada's Gold medal count to 6 medals. Ski Cross makes its debut at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

Ski Cross is a race involving 4 skiiers who ski over a course that involves rolls, ridges, flat sections, and banks. This course is similar to the snowboard cross course. This leads to fast and exciting competition. The following video is an example of a Ski Cross race.

Canada also continues their quest for Hockey Gold by advancing to the quarterfinals in Men's Hockey. Canada won against Germany last night 8-2. They will meet Russia tonight at 7:30. Canada and Russia are huge rivals which dates back to the 1950's, not only at the Olympics but through World Cups as well. This should be an exciting game!!!

  1. Hi Ms. Friesen,

This is 6 Shorey. We know you are very, very busy working on library renovations. We are eager to come for book exchange and use library passes again. Are the renovations going to include new books?

Thank you for keeping us up-to-date on the olympics. What did you enjoy watching the most? We can't decide as a class what we enjoyed watching the most. The popular sports to watch were hockey, speed skating, curling, skiing, snowboarding and much, much more!!!

    Talk to you soon,
    6 Shorey

  2. Hello 6 Shorey!

Thanks for the comment. It has been a very busy week with reorganizing the library and I am looking forward to having you come down to the library for a book exchange next week.

I hope you enjoyed the Olympics as much as I did. There were so many great events to watch. I think one of my favourite events was the Snowboard Cross event. It was like roller skating, snowboarding, and skiing all wrapped up in one! It was really exciting. Did you watch the men and women hockey teams win gold for us?

Anyway, I will be sure to update the blog this weekend. The Paralympics are coming up in Vancouver and Canada has about 50 athletes participating. I will continue to keep you posted.

Look forward to seeing you next week.

    Ms. Friesen
